High Streets UK submits set of recommendations for growth ahead of Autumn Budget

As we approach the Autumn Budget, High Streets UK has submitted a formal response to Government setting out the practical reforms needed to secure growth, jobs and investment across the UK’s flagship high streets.

Our high streets are embedded in local communities and play a crucial role in the wider economic ecosystems of cities and towns up and down the country.

Our submission calls on Government to:

  • Exempt retail, hospitality and leisure businesses from the proposed higher business rates multiplier;
  • Freeze any further multiplier increases until 2027/28, providing certainty through the next revaluation;
  • Deliver a coordinated national strategy on high street crime, with ringfenced policing for flagship destinations; and
  • Work with business to design a modern, digital VAT-free shopping scheme that restores the UK’s global competitiveness.
